Riverside Public Utilities began serving both electric and water customers in 1883. Today, Riverside serves 106,000 metered electric customers and 64,000 metered water customers over an 82 square mile area. The Utility is committed to the highest quality water and electric services at the lowest possible rates to benefit its customer/owners. To maintain its commitment, Riverside has a diverse resource portfolio mix, including a 1.79% (38 MW) ownership interest in the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station; 240 MW of internal, simple-cycle, natural gas, 240 MW peaking generation, 28 MW combined-cycle natural gas generation; participation in joint SCPPA (42 MW) and IPA (137 MW) generation projects; and short, mid and long-term contracts from various power suppliers. Riverside has acquired resources to achieve its renewable portfolio standard goal of serving 20% of retail energy needs by 2010, and as the State of California’s first “Emerald City” remains committed to becoming a municipal leader in the use of renewable energy resources to promote sustainability. Riverside will continues to invest significant resources in its infrastructure to provide high quality, reliable service to its customer/owners. |
