Vernon’s Utilities Department began serving industrial customers in 1933, with completion of its diesel generating plant. In addition to its own power from diesel units and gas turbines, Vernon also receives power from the Malburg Generating Station, Palo Verde, Hoover, and various suppliers. The Malburg Generating Station resides within city limits. Vernon is part of the California independent System Operator (CAISO) Control Area and is a Participating Transmission Owner.
