SCPPA Participants: Anaheim, Banning, Glendale, Pasadena

Year Built: 2006

Peak Plant Capacity: 20? MW

Future Plans: Add geothermal projects in the Salton Sea and Brawley areas.

In order to meet the renewable power mandate, geothermal energy was added to the SCPPA portfolio with the Ormat Geothermal Project. The Authority entered into long-term power purchase agreements in December 2005 with divisions of Ormat Technologies, Inc., for 20 megawatts (“MW”) of electric generation from geothermal energy facilities located in Heber, California.

SCPPA member cities Anaheim, Banning, Glendale and Pasadena began receiving a total of 10 MW of geothermal energy from the Gould Geothermal Plant in Heber, California, in January of 2006. An additional 10 MW is to become available soon.
