SCPPA Participants: Burbank, Glendale, LADWP

Year Built: 2009

Peak Power Output: 99 MW

Future Plans: Additional wind energy projects in this area

The Pebble Springs Wind Project is located in Gilliam County, Oregon, near the town of Arlington.

In early 2009, the SCPPA member cities of Burbank, Glendale, and Los Angeles began taking delivery of wind energy from the Pebble Springs Wind Project. This project was purchased from Pebble Springs Wind, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPM Energy (Iberdrola Renewables' U.S. energy business).

SCPPA member agencies will receive the entire energy output of the Pebble Springs wind farm. The project is expected to produce more than 275,000 megawatt-hours annually -- enough wind energy to serve more than 45,800 homes.

LADWP will receive 69 MW, and the cities of Burbank and Glendale will be entitled to 10 MW and 20 MW, respectively.

The Project will interconnect to the Bonneville Power Administration system through a connection to the Jones Canyon substation adjacent to the existing Leaning Juniper Wind Power Project. SCPPA will move the energy via the existing Pacific HVDC Transmission Line that feeds directly into LADWP's Sylmar Converter Station.

Pebble Springs Wind Project marks another significant step in achieving the goal of increasing the amount of clean, renewable energy used by these three SCPPA members.
