Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) began providing electricity in 1906 and began delivering water in 1912. The city built its first electric generating steam plant in 1907 and took over operation of its municipal street lighting from Edison Electric. In 1909, Pasadena began the extension of its operations to commercial and residential customers that resulted in the replacement of all Edison Electric service in the city by 1920. While a lot has changed over the years, PWP’s strong connection to its customer/owner base remains constant. Today, PWP provides electric service to more than 61,000 metered accounts over a 23 square-mile service area at competitive rates. PWP’s success is a result of its commitment to remain a valued community asset, an exceptional employer, and a partner in Pasadena’s prosperous future.
